Students moving to CRS during the 2023-24 academic year

27 June 2023

Assistance required with data collection

The Research Degrees team need to collect details of students moving to CRS next year.  Because of the way fees are collected, students are charged fees up to the date they move to CRS so we will need to know if this date is at the start or later in the 2023-24 academic session. It would help us if you could compile a spreadsheet for your department/programme/DTE with the students' numbers, names and the date they will move to CRS and email this to Research Degrees.

Students must have upgraded to PhD and have completed the minimum required registration period - three years full time or five years part time – before they are allowed to move to CRS status. UKRI and other funded students should not move to CRS for the period of any extension where fees are covered by the funder.  They may need to move to CRS after this if they will not be ready to submit within the period of their funding.

We will need this information before students are asked to enrol in late August.  Please note that we will have a large number of records to update so please bear with us while we work through all the information you send.

Please note too that the Covid-19 contingency arrangement allowing research students additional time on CRS will not apply to students who started on after 28 September 2020.  These will be full time students who may be eligible for CRS from the start of the 2023-24 academic session.

In summary:

  • Students who started on or before 27 September 2020 will have 18 months fulltime or three years part time CRS.
  • Students who started on or after 28 September 2020 will have 12 months full time or two years part time CRS.
