Borderline Changes for Covid-19
18 May 2021
Changes to Borderline decisions for this year’s Exam Boards
If students are considered for classification in 2020-21, the borderline has been extended by 1.00%.
Students on the new classification regulations
For students on the new UG classification regulations (PGT students, 3 Year Bachelors programmes, the iBSc and Cert HE) the borderline has been widened by 1.00%:
Example – 3 Year Bachelors:
Normal regulations:
a) A Final Weighted Mark greater than or equal to 69.50%
OR
b) A Final Weighted Mark greater than or equal to 68.50% AND Module marks of at least 70.00% in at least 50% of the Final Year credits.
For 2020/21, this has changed to:
a) A Final Weighted Mark greater than or equal to 69.50%
OR
b) A Final Weighted Mark greater than or equal to 67.50% AND Module marks of at least 70.00% in at least 50% of the Final Year credits.
Students and staff can find the specific regulations for their individual programme via the Portico Progression and Award Rules Tool.
4 and 5 Year UG programmes
Integrated masters, study abroad, placement and partnership programmes are still using the former borderline regulations. The same principle of widening the borderline by 1.00% applies and the normal, variable criteria for moving the student up have been replaced by a standard rule:
Example regulation for 2020-21:
You must achieve a Final Weighted Mark greater than or equal to:
- FIRST (1): 69.50%, or 67.50% and module marks of at least 70.00% in at least 50% of your Final Year credits.
- UPPER SECOND (2.1): 59.50%, or 57.50% and module marks of at least 60.00% in at least 50% of your Final Year credits.
- LOWER SECOND (2.2): 49.50%, or 47.50% and module marks of at least 50.00% in at least 50% of your Final Year credits.
- THIRD (3): 40.00%.
Students and staff can find the regulations for their individual programme via the Portico Progression and Award Rules Tool.
Non-standard programmes
Individual arrangements have been made with programmes which do not use the standard borderline criteria e.g. IOE letter grades, English, Fine Art, MBBS, LLB four-year programmes and LLM students on older regulations.
Students and staff can find the regulations for their individual programme via the Portico Progression and Award Rules Tool.
