Early Module Registration to Begin Spring 2022
30 November 2020
Update on plans to improve the module registration process
In 2022 Module Selection for 2022/23 returning students will be moved earlier to the Spring from the current timing just before the start of term. Allowing students to select modules earlier will provide departments more information on student demand for their modules. If more students could be accommodated, fewer would be rejected from their module choices. It will also spread some of the workload away from the very busy start of year period.
The original plan was to make this shift in the Spring of 2021 but since there is still uncertainty regarding the 2021/22 academic year, the Vice-Provost (Education & Student Affairs) advised this year was not the right year to make this change.
A good module selection experience for students relies on accurate and streamlined programme diets. This extra time will enable Student Records to work with Departments to resolve issues to make sure the quality of the diets is improved.
Laws participated in a pilot for early module registration in Spring 2020 which was very well received by students and staff. A very high percentage of the eligible students participated. The solution in Portico and interfaces to other systems were amended as required and can support earlier module registration in the future.
