About the qualification

The Edexcel level 3 BTEC qualifications have been taught since 2002, with the first award in 2003. They were accredited on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). From 2010 these qualifications were re-developed by Edexcel so that they were Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) compliant. Further reforms to make the BTEC compliant with the new Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) have taken place with teaching of this qualification starting in 2016.

The QCF and RQF awards are running concurrently.

There are five QCF awards:

BTEC Level 3 Certificate

BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma

BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma

BTEC Level 3 Diploma

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

There are also five RQF awards:

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Certificate

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma
