Sending artwork and parcels – broker for couriers.

I use interparcel.com for most shipments I send. They are a broker for all the major couriers. They are much more reliable and helpful than other brokers. This means they offer low costs of major account holders. I find the “Interparcel Standard” service the best. This is UPS in disguise. Same day pickup with next day delivery. Crates for shipping and storing artwork

When shipping artwork around it is ideal to have custom wooden crates made to the right size. It protects the artwork and makes shipping and handling easier and safer. It is often cheaper buying ready made plastic. Recommended companies: Packable, wood approved for international shipment, fast turnaround, many options.

Litho/digital commercial printers for books, magazines, etc

Here are some commercial printers I have worked with for a variety of jobs, and personally recommend. They have different specialities. Please remember, these are commercial printers aiming at trade business (namely book, publishers or graphic designers). That is to say, not only will they expect perfect PDFs/artwork, but when costing a job, they would expect a fairly firm specification to quote to. Documentation of Art Work

Documentation is not the work. You need to plan your photo shot in away that it records a sense of your artwork. This may mean you need to do a number of different things. A general installation shot to give an idea of scale and contextualising the work within the space. A cropped shot of a piece to display it clearly. A close shot to show materials and texture. Culturegrid is a huge index of cultural assets in the UK (books, photographs, videos, locations…), and has a search API. At the moment it doesn’t return the large images for the URLs it indexes. This adds that feature. Website: http://culturescraper.heroku.com/
