The aim of the Thomas Witherden Batt Scholarship is to enable and encourage those who might have financial constraints in pursuing a full-time Master's degree to study at UCL.
Eligibility
Candidates must fulfil all of the following criteria:
- be ordinarily resident in the UK and eligible to pay Home fee rate;
- AND have submitted an admission application for a full-time stand-alone* Master of Science (MSc) degree at UCL in 2026/27.
* Applicants must not be importing credits from prevous study into this programme.
Value, benefits, and duration
- There are 4 (four) scholarships available in 2026/27.
- The value of the award is £10,000.
- The scholarship is tenable for one year only unless the student is part-time or on a full-time programme which is 2yrs in length. In those cases the bursary will be paid 50% in each year of study.
- The Thomas Witherden Batt Scholarship may be held alongside other scholarships, studentships, awards, or bursaries depending on the total value of other funds received by the student.
- Scholarship recipients are obliged to inform the UCL Student Funding Office immediately of any other funding they are awarded towards their UCL Master’s degree studies, before or subsequent to the Thomas Witherden Batt Scholarship.
- The scholarship will first be applied to the recipient’s tuition fees, with any remainder payable to the recipient in three equal instalments throughout the academic year towards maintenance.
Selection
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need as determined by the Student Funding Office.
