Students from this year's intake into the London NERC DTP visited MSSL to undertake training in the natural hazards of space weather.
Students from this year's intake into the London NERC DTP visited the University of London Observatory, Royal Astronomical Society and MSSL to undertake training in the natural hazards of space weather. The three-day training course included practicals on space weather instrumentation, taking part in a space weather disaster scenario run by the Met Office and the design of a new space weather monitoring mission.
The London NERC DTP allows students to study all across the range of topics within the NERC mission, including institutes across London such as the Natural History Museum, Kew Gardens and UCL. Space weather is a key natural hazard within this remit. This year's training helped the students to understand the science, impact and monitoring of space weather.
We would like to thank Catherine Burnett and Mike Marsh of the Met Office and Sheila Kanani and Sian Prosser of the RAS for helping make this training event a huge success.
