What are in person exam settings?

The room will be set up with individual numbered desks which will be assigned to you after your session is confirmed. You will be expected to remain in silence from the moment you enter the space until the exam time is over. You will need to leave your bag at the back of the room once you have removed your sample/past paper and materials needed. All items are left at your own risk. If you do not need to bring your bag with you then please do not.  The session will run for the allocated time (either 2 or 3 hour depending on the session booked.) You will not be allowed to have any electronic device on your person and this includes smart watches. You will need to be seated in your assigned seat 10 minutes prior to the start time of the exam. Once the exam has started you cannot leave for the first 45 minutes or the last 15 minutes.

What do I need to bring to the exam style study session?

  • You will need to bring a sample or past paper.
  • Writing implements (pens, pencils, erasers, mathematical instruments etc.) as you will not be allowed to use electronic devices other than the specified calculators listed below:
  • Calculators (approved models only – see below).
    • Casio FX83GT+
    • Casio FX83MS (battery operated)
    • Casio FX83ES (battery operated)
    • Casio FX83WA (battery operated)
    • Casio FX85GT+
    • Casio FX85MS (solar powered)
    • Casio FX85ES (solar powered)
    • Casio FX85WA (solar powered)
  • Your seat number.
  • Your candidate number. We will not ask for this but you will need this for your exams in the ExCel so it will be worthwhile learning it. Your candidate number is allocated to you for anonymous marking. This can be found under My Studies page on Portico.

Am I able to get feedback on my sample/past paper?

These sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to experience exam style conditions in a timed environment and are not a mock exam. Unfortunately, we would not be able to give feedback on papers in the session. However as per faculty assessment policy there should be a set of indicative answers and written guidance about when and how you can access dedicated exam support such as office hours, revision workshops or Moodle forums provided by module leaders. More information can be found in the Student guide in Preparing for Exams.

Where are these study sessions being held?

The exam study style sessions will be held on the Bloomsbury campus in the IOE. We have space for 100 students per exam session. Once your booking has been confirmed the location will be provided for you.  You will be allocated a seat number and you will need to sit in your allocated seat which is similar to what will happen at the ExCel. The desk attached to the seat will be smaller than the desk you will have at the ExCel, it will not be an exact replica of the space but will provide you with the opportunity to experience exam conditions.
