Reopening library sites safely in Term 3

30 March 2021

We aim to open most UCL library sites by the start of Term 3 with safety restrictions in place.

Some libraries and study sites will reopen during the week commencing Monday 12 April. Our plans to reopen library sites are conditional on the national ‘road map’ set out by the UK government. We will  share more news shortly after the Easter holidays. We aim to open more libraries as soon as it is safe to do so to support students in London during Term 3.

We need your help. We can only open libraries if all users follow the conditions for using a study space which can be found on the Bookable study spaces help page. In Term 3, you will still need to book a study space and if you can, you must wear a face covering. We must all work together to protect ourselves and others and to reduce the spread of the virus.

Ayman Benmati, Education Officer Students’ Union UCL:

"As we approach exam season, and with more and more students returning to London, it's of utmost importance that UCL opens library and study spaces. The library team is determined to reopen these spaces by Term 3 - as quickly as Covid restrictions allow. However, as students, we need to do our bit too. Whether it's following the rules when using the spaces, or being respectful to each other and the library staff, we all have a part to play in making UCL a safe and welcoming space for all."
