Investing in postgraduate learning space at UCL
10 June 2019
UCL is investing over £250,000 this summer in the improvement of postgraduate spaces to improve the experience of postgraduate students.
The Graduate Hub (South Wing, behind the Print Room Café) will be completely refurbished and the Senate House Hub, which provides over 140 study spaces for UCL students, will be converted to be exclusively accessible to research postgraduate (PGR) students, following demand for an area exclusively available to PGR students.
The Research Grid rooms in the UCL Main Library will be closed, to create space which will support the relocated UCL Eastman Dental Library as it moves in late August 2019. The rooms will be used for information skills training and for Library staff offices.
These changes mean that the following areas will be closed during summer 2019:
- Graduate Hub (closing for 6 weeks)
- Senate House Hub (closing for 6 weeks, re-opening by September 2019 for research postgraduate students)
- Main Library Research Grid (permanently)
During construction
Once construction dates are known, further communication will be circulated to confirm the dates when these rooms will be inaccessible. While the works are taking place, graduate students will continue to have access to the Research Grid on the 4th floor of the UCL Science Library and to all learning spaces managed by Library Services including 24-hour access to the Student Centre.
