Clinical Trials and studies
We are currently enrolling for a number of clinical trials testing new medications to treat mitochondrial fatigue and muscle dysfunction. If you have mitochondrial disease and would like to take part in one of our clinical trials, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We also conduct clinical studies to improve understanding of mitochondrial disease symptoms. These include mitochondrial diabetes, fatigue, dizziness, and epilepsy.

Our Services and how to be referred
We take a team approach in our services to deliver the best care to patients. We run weekly clinics and meetings with mitochondrial doctors, a clinical nurse specialist, and specialist physiotherapist. Depending on your symptoms we also work in close collaboration with a number of medical experts in including inherited cardiology, diabetes, balance and hearing, bowel and bladder specialists. To be seen in person, or online, please arrange a referral from your doctor. More information is available in the Professionals Area [link to referral] of this website.
- If you/ your family members have an established diagnosis of mitochondrial disease you can be referred by your GP.
- If you have not yet received a diagnosis but are considered to possibly have mitochondrial disease, please speak with your neurologist or clinical geneticist about getting referred.
- We offer advice for patients of any age with confirmed mitochondrial disease via our multidisciplinary team. Your clinician can contact our service at uclh.enquiry.mitochondrialservice@nhs.net
- Re-analysis of previous genetic testing is also available e.g., research exomes and genomes for undiagnosed patients. Your clinician can contact our team to avail of this service. uclh.enquiry.mitochondrialservice@nhs.net
