The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is in the unique position of pursuing in basic neuroscience that is of direct translational benefit to patients with neuromuscular diseases including peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, mitochondrial disease, muscle channelopathy, as well as motor neurone disease. A major strength of the Department is the breadth of expertise of its researchers in diverse aspects of neuromuscular disease. Our Research Groups use a powerful combination of molecular, cellular and system level techniques and a variety of cellular, animal and human models to explore disease mechanisms and develop new therapeutic strategies.
