Research and Funding

Here you will find more information on our research and funding.

The Unit’s research strategy is clinical and patient-centred, with the primary objective being to further improve the outcome and the quality of life of patients, and to advance surgical therapies for patients with pituitary and central skull base disease. The approach is multidisciplinary, multicentre, and multinational.

We collaborate closely with engineers through the BRAIN group and WEISS Centre to further improve the safety and effectiveness of our skull base techniques using technologies such augmented reality, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

We also collaborate with endocrinologists and other scientists to better understand the genetic causes for these diseases with a view towards developing novel therapies.

Our research is only made possible through funding by the National Brain Appeal. In the coming years, we plan to use further funding to support other work, including:

  • Open Days for Patient and Public Engagement
  • Clinical Research Fellowships for Doctors and Nurses
  • Equipment, including a new ultrasound device, a 3D endoscope, and a perimetry machine.

We are very grateful to the many patients, family, and friends, who have already contributed funds to support our research. For those who wish to make a contribution, please consider giving to the National Brain Appeal stating that you would like your donation to specifically go towards our pituitary research, or contact us directly.
