Dr Angelika Zarkali Highly Commended by the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science programme

We're delighted to announce that Dr Angelika Zarkali (Alzheimer's Research UK Clinical Research Fellow, Neurodegenerative Diseases, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology) was highly commended as a Life Sciences Rising Talent

This year, Dr Zarkali was Highly Commended as a Life Sciences Rising Talent for her work in Lewy body dementia.

Dr Angelika Zarkali – Highly Commended

Dr Angelika Zarkali is a neurologist and neuroscientist investigating the hallucinations and cognitive fluctuations in Lewy body dementia at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. She uses ultra - high field MRI to understand changes in the structure and function of the brain that lead to these distressing symptoms. Her ultimate goal is to develop to develop new treatment approaches for Lewy body dementia. She has a PhD in Neuroscience from UCL.

I am extremely grateful to my academic and clinical mentors for their support throughout the years; specifically Professor Rimona Weil, my PhD supervisor and exemplar role model of women scientist, Professor Geraint Rees and Professor Andrew Lees at UCL. Their support and guidance gave me the confidence to achieve what I have done so far, and also provided me a vision of my next steps in my career.  And I am grateful to my family who supported and helped me throughout busy and stressful years!’ Dr Angelika Zarkali
