May 25 Marks World MS Day

24 May 2011

World MS Day, an international campaign launched in 2009, aims to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis and strengthen the global network of people living with MS.

This year’s event focuses on MS in the workplace, specifically looking at ways that employers and policy makers can make small, low cost changes to the workplaces that would allow MS patients to stay in work longer. Activities will be taking place in over 60 countries.

Professor Alan Thompson, Director of the Institute of Neurology and Chairman of the International Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the MS International Federation commented, “This is an important day to raise  the profile and awareness of this chronic disabling neurological condition which affects young adults. Although we have seen major advances recently in both our understanding and treatment of this condition, some critically important issues relating to its cause, mechanisms of damage and management still need to be addressed."
