IoN launches new website
13 April 2011
The new UCL’s Institute of Neurology website launches today, bringing with it improved and additional features, and direct support from UCL web services.
The website is moving from the IoN server to the UCL managed server, and will utilise the UCL version of Silva. UCL’s Silva provides the new site with greater functionality, including better media and image handling, such as new feeds, tickers, easier image editing and captioning, gallery creation, use of rollovers, slideshows, lightbox features and the ability to embed movies and Flash products in webpages.
The specific impetus for the move comes from Vice Provost Sir John Tooke’s initiative to standardize all School of Life and Medical Sciences websites, in order to help create a coherent identity for UCL to the outside world.
IoN’s Director, Professor Alan Thompson said of the new website, “I think this is a great improvement. It’s very slick and up to date. The improved functionality for both users and visitors is much needed, and will only enhance our online presence. Additionally, it underlines the Institute's position within the UCL family.”
Staff who want to investigate Silva’s features in depth should visit the UCL Silva sandbox test area, which can be accessed here http://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/staff/websites/silvaCMS/1-beginning-silva/sandboxes
