"Opening doors for patients with MS"

16 February 2009

A profile of the Director of the Institute, Professor Alan Thompson, features in the current issue of The Lancet Neurology.

"Straying to the hospital basement during his early medical training at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, Alan Thompson found a door labelled “MS research”. Pushing open the door revealed a completely empty room. Many people would have decided on the spot that multiple sclerosis (MS) research was clearly not a flourishing field for a young doctor. But that was just what attracted Thompson.

Opening doors is what he has been doing ever since."
