Over the past decade, the landscape of ultra-high field MRI has undergone a remarkable evolution, shifting from a specialized tool for MRI physicists and engineers to a mainstream imaging modality widely employed in the exploration of brain structure and cognitive function among both healthy individuals and patients. Human 7 Tesla MRI scanner technology has matured and promises to be a game-changed for neuroimaging. In my presentation, I will describe our efforts on high-resolution functional MRI, a spatial scale only available thus far using invasive approaches in animals or patients, which opens new avenues for investigating the intricacies of brain function and structure with unparalleled precision. In detail, in the first part of my talk, I will describe analysis challenges and MRI sequences for high-resolution fMRI (namely, gradient-echo, spin-echo and ASL) and their respective advantages and disadvantages. In the second part of the talk, I will describe our physiological model linking neuronal activity and fMRI for standard and laminar spatial resolution within the framework of dynamic causal modeling (DCM) and compare them with previous versions.
