SPEEDOP team showcase initial work to clinicians at UCLH

16 May 2023

Clinician practising on a phantom

On 13th May, members of the SPEEDOP team (Dr Hoang Ha Le, Dr Peter Snow and Prof Rui Loureiro) took part in showcasing initial work for feedback and stress testing of two procedures (Manual Rotation & Pudendal Nerve Block) in conjunction with UCLH’s Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU). The system was demonstrated at the end of a training day for clinicians practising various procedures related to complications requiring intervention during childbirth.

Procedures practised by attendees have critical clinical applications, with training being either difficult to achieve or current training methods not providing metrics needed to help improvement due to physical phantoms not being available.

The feedback will be incorporated into a future version of the simulator in time for the next training day in November, in which data will be collected from participants to evaluate the training simulations and attest to how well the acquired skills translate to the real procedure.
