In 2020 researchers from the Multiscale Cardiovascular Engineering Group at UCL/WEISS sought to create an online experience to explore our anatomy and the techniques we use to understand it.
Collaborating with people from Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland, a patient association for people affected by aortic dissection and their families, and the design studio Cellule, we created The Aorta: The River Within Us.
This web tool was developed using real patient data from an individual who had suffered an aortic dissection and through discussions with people whose lives had been affected by this life threatening disease and scientists working on simulating the aorta to treat this and other conditions.
