Persian shallots could aid fight against antibiotic resistant TB
22 January 2018
An ongoing study led by academics at Birkbeck, University of London & UCL has suggested that analogues of disulfides from Persian shallots could increase the effects of existing antibiotic treatment.
The research, recently published in the Scientific Reports journal, conducted tests on four different molecules found in Persian shallots and found that all four significantly reduces the presence of bacteria in MDR-TB.
UCL-TB members Dr Sanjib Bhakta, Professor Simon Gibbons, Professor Tim McHugh, and Dr Dimitrios Evangelopoulos among the paper's authors.
