Dr Matt Fisher recognised at UCL Education Awards 2023

The UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL) is delighted to announce that Co-Director, Dr Matt Fisher (Senior Lecturer, UCL Laws) has won two awards at the UCL Education Awards 2023.
Staff and students from across UCL came together on Wednesday 7 June on the Wilkins Terrace to celebrate the staff who go the extra mile to support student learning at UCL. The Education Awards comprise of:
- UCL Education Awards (staff nominated by staff) and
- Student Choice Awards (run by the UCL Students’ Union, staff nominated by students)
Dr Matt Fisher (Senior Lecturer at UCL Laws and Co-Director of IBIL) was named the joint winner of the Provost Education Award in the Assessment and Feedback category, as well as winning the Student Choice Award for Outstanding Research Supervision.
Speaking about Dr Fisher's approach to assessment and feedback, the nomination noted that: "Matt Fisher is a quite outstanding lecturer and mentor... Uniquely in Laws, he includes a group assessment, encouraging students to develop team-working skills alongside the traditional lawyerly skills required to complete the coursework...His support to students to understand and engage with the process, resulting in an alternative perspective and highly effective learning, is phenomenal."
In terms of research supervision, one of his proposers stated: "I truly feel like I won the lottery finding Matt as a research supervisor... From the moment I reached out to him to gauge his interest in taking me on, I felt I connected with a person who was interested and engaged in my research. He's guided me through the ups and downs of the PhD process ever since and I can't imagine taking on this journey with anyone else."
