Annual Leave and Work Life Balance

Enabling all staff to achieve a good work life balance is a key priority at UCL.

Annual Leave

At UCL we offer 27 days of annual leave plus six closure days (at Christmas and Easter) as well as statutory holidays.

Work Life Balance

We also facilitate flexible working such as flexitime, annualised hours, term-time working, shift working, staggered hours, job share/job splitting, part-time working, compressed hours, career breaks and planned remote working. To further enhance work life balance employees are eligible to request to purchase up to an additional 5 days of annual leave per year (pro-rated for part time staff) which can be repaid via salary over a 10 month period. See the Annual Leave Purchasing Scheme (ALPS) for details. 

Hybrid working guidance for central and faculty professional services staff and technical staff

When we returned to campus after lockdown in 2021, we launched the Interim Return to Campus Guidance and staff were expected to work at least 40% of their time on-site. We reviewed these arrangements earlier this year through a series of listening exercises and we've launched the new guidance and other tools and resources to support staff and managers.
