The Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Clinical and Research Informatics Unit (CRIU) at UCL/UCLH has been established to provide a robust approach to the analysis of clinical data to support operations, clinical decision support and research at one of the world’s leading teaching hospitals.  As such BRC CRIU is undergoing an exciting period of expansion and development.

The facility is a partnership between University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) and University College London (UCL). Moreover we are geographically placed within the ‘Digital Square Mile’ in close proximity and with established collaborations with the Alan Turning Institute and DeepMind Health. This milieu will allow the post holder to gain exposure to broad aspects of data sciences, both operational and research including Electronic Health Records, -omics, imaging, wearables, natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence and information governance The post holder would be encouraged to pursue a higher research degree if desired, and this can be facilitated given this post is shared between the NHS and UCL.

BRC discovery science benefits from association with 7 MRC Centres, a Cancer Research UK Centre, the Alzheimer’s UK and Wolfson Drug Discovery Units, the London Centre for Nanotechnology, and juxtaposition with the Euston Biomedical Corridor, making us the natural translational research partner for the Francis Crick, Farr and Alan Turing institutes, as well as a new £1bn Google headquarters development.

Applications are invited for a Senior Software Developer within the BRC CRIU at UCL/UCLH.  In addition, the role will be expected to benefit various initiatives such as our Healthcare Informatics, Genomics/Omics, Data Science (HIGODS) themes as well as the NIHR Healthcare Informatics Collaborative programme as part of the NIHR BRC at UCLH.

The post holder will have a strong technical background and substantial experience of software development/ systems engineering. Experience of both Windows and Linux development environments would be a distinct advantage for the successful appointee. The appointee will facilitate the extraction, harmonisation and curation of health data from diverse data sources using established open source solutions and metadata standards.
