23 June 2023

Embark on a captivating voyage with student ambassador Ran, as he navigates the transformative path from economics to healthcare expertise at UCL GBSH.

STUDY

I am Ran Mo, a student in MSc Biotech and pharmaceutical management. Personal planning can be daunting, but having a clear vision for the future is crucial. As a master's student at UCL Global Business School for Health (GBSH), I often find myself reflecting on my personal goals and aspirations. While the job market can be uncertain, I have a firm long-term goal to become an expert in the healthcare industry, much like the teachers and guest speakers at GBSH who have inspired me.

My undergraduate degree in economics opened doors to various fields, but it was during my health economics course that I discovered my passion for global health and human well-being. Growing up with parents who are healthcare veterans in China has also allowed me to gain insight into the current health issues and operation mode of China's health system, pharmaceutical companies, and private clinics. After I joined the Global Business School for Health, where I gained a deeper understanding of the most cutting-edge aspects of the global health industry. The program's courses and lectures have equipped me with the language and thinking required to explore the commercialisation of the global healthcare industry and its impact on human well-being.

I am grateful to the teachers at Global Business School for Health for their guidance and advice. Initially, I was unsure of how to combine my economics background with my current studies to achieve my future career goal. However, Professor Nora and Dr Radi's insights and advice helped me analyse my strengths and weaknesses, changing my life and opening up new opportunities. In my future career development, I plan to combine my enthusiasm for healthcare with my knowledge base in economics and apply for job and internship opportunities in healthcare equity research, health economics, commercialisation, and ESG. I am open to opportunities in any region, whether it be the UK, China, or elsewhere, and I am willing to give 100% effort to cherish every opportunity and challenge.

Aside from my career aspirations, I have other personal goals. One of these is to have a pet in the future, as I have always been fond of animals. Additionally, I dream of travelling to Longyearbyen with my family, which is the northernmost settlement in the world and is known for its unique landscape and wildlife.

In conclusion, personal planning is an ongoing process that requires a clear vision and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. With the knowledge and skills I have gained from the Global Business School for Health, I am confident in pursuing my long-term goal of becoming a healthcare industry expert while also pursuing other personal aspirations.
