'Coronavirus: The Whole Story' is a weekly podcast series by UCL Minds highlighting UCL’s interdisciplinary expertise on Covid-19. It focuses on managing, mitigating, and eventually halting the spread of Covid-19, and preparing for a post-coronavirus world. It’s presented by writer, broadcaster and UCL alumna Vivienne Parry.

This week’s episode explores practical ways to help the economy bounce back after Covid-19. Dr Celia Caulcott, Vice-Provost (Enterprise), joins Professor Wendy Carlin (UCL European Institute), to give her view on how UCL can contribute to reflating the economy.

Celia highlights UCL’s expertise in creating and growing companies. Recent figures for 2018/19 show UCL companies have employed over 3,000 people. UCL spinout companies attracted external investment of over £579 million, which is more than any other university in the country (HEBCI 2018/19).

She expands on UCL’s strong track record of working with industry, government and networks to drive innovation and economic growth. UCL is currently helping over 180 London SMEs to survive and grow.

Celia also identifies the rising importance of an entrepreneurial mindset and has an interesting insight into how she’d use a magic wand to help kick-start the economy.
