The European engineering educators podcast from SEFI brings you key insights into the minds of university researchers and practitioners who have built international reputations in the field of engineering education with knowledge and advice to share.

The monthly podcast launched on all digital platforms at the SEFI conference 2022 in Barcelona, on 19 September.

What is team work in engineering and how do you teach it to world class university? Professor Emanuela Tilley (Director of the Integrated Engineering Programme) is the guest on the new episode of European Engineering Educators podcast. Emanuela describes her experience in teaching teams - of up to a thousand students who take the IEP module. She defines team work as working well with others to collectively achieve a common goal, while balancing team goals with self-interest.

Emanuela’s approach is informed by both her own experiences of problem based, authentic learning and her time as an engineering project consultant working in interdisciplinary teams in the built environment. She advocates for assessment schemes which are heavily weighted towards peer review process, and highlights educators’ responsibility to foster psychological safety and self-discovery.
