Professor Philip Schofield is hosting Dr Xiaobo Zhai, a lecturer in
constitutional law at the University of Peking Law School, who has been
awarded a prestigious Newton Scholarship. Dr Zhai's main interests are
in the areas of legal theory and democracy. He joined the Bentham
Project in March 2009 in order to work on Bentham's constitutional
theory, and in particular Bentham's writings on representative
democracy. Dr Zhai will spend two years at UCL, and thereafter is
eligible for an annual grant for 10 further years in order to maintain
his academic contacts in the UK.
