Design Unlimited FUSION

The Bartlett Outreach Team is happy to announce that we have launched this year's Design Unlimited pre-16 programme. Continuing our successful collaboration with the Matt+Fiona social enterprise, we will be working with three fantastic London schools.

• Drayton Manor High
• Hammersmith Academy

Design Unlimited aims to empower young people to physically realise the ideas in their imaginations and open their eyes to the potential of a career in architecture, planning, construction and other design industries. 

Through a series of workshops, students will develop the brief and designs for an installation or furniture. The brief will be determined by the students themselves and the workshops will take place in the spring and will take place in the schools and at UCL.

Our theme this year is FUSION, we will explore the exciting opportunities that arise when we break down boundaries and explore the territories in between.

Within the UK the built environment is at the centre of several crises currently facing society. The housing, cost of living, and climate crisis can all be strongly attributed to the construction, use, maintenance and inequitable distribution of buildings and infrastructure.

Whether this is between old and new, through retrofit and repurposing of spaces; between functions, as buildings house mixed and multiple uses; between urban and natural, blurring boundaries between the man-made and natural environment; and between disciplines, as professions in the built environment evolve and merge creating new careers in space making.
