Ivor Pridden - Honorary Research Fellow

Name: Ivor Pridden

Honorary Title: Honorary Research Fellow

Email: i.pridden@ucl.ac.uk

IoA staff nominator’s name and email address:

Stephen Quirke s.quirke@ucl.ac.uk

Profile

Ivor gained an MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums from the IoA and was employed on several projects in the UCL Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology. He is working with Margaret Serpico on a project to improve the cataloguing of the extensive photographic archive of the Petrie Museum, including where possible the identification of previously unlisted images. A major aim is to create a single searchable dataset bringing together and expanding on information from the various incompatible documents that currently list different sections of the photographic archive, ideally this will be developed into an online database including digitised images similar to the Griffith Institute catalogue of their Flinders Petrie albums. The archive is a valuable but underused resource and knowledge of it will be disseminated for example through student engagement seminars and publications and possibly an exhibition with student involvement. Stephen Quirke and Claudia Naeser will be supported in developing the new BA in the Archaeology of Egypt and Sudan, in particular through object-based and archival tutorials and taught classes to introduce UG and MA IoA students to UCL Egyptian Archaeology collections, as well as through discussion seminars aimed at supporting PhD students.
