The Bulletin of the Institute of Archaeology was produced annually between 1958 and 1994 (volumes 1-31). Each volume contained high quality research articles by Institute staff, students and visiting scholars. The Bulletin was replaced by Archaeology International in 1997.

Fieldwork news and excavation reports featured regularly, relating to both international Institute projects and the work of the Sussex Archaeological Field Unit (now Archaeology South-East), the commercial archaeology division of the Institute.

The journal contains particularly valuable information about the Institute’s contribution to the development of Archaeological Conservation, Environmental Archaeology, Roman Archaeology, and the pioneering use of science and computers in the subject.

It is notable for the range of work by former students of the Institute of Archaeology. Many are now world-leading scholars and articles in the Bulletin provide access to their early, formative work.
