UCL Anthropology is offering two new MPhil/PhD scholarships for applicants. Deadline June 10th 2019!
We are happy to announce that UCL's Department of Anthropology is offering two new MPhil/PhD scholarships for applicants each for three years, with a possible fourth year of support for completing the dissertation. The funding will include a stipend of £ 17,280, plus UK/EU fees and additional costs for equipment or travel. Non-EU students may apply, although fees funding is capped at the level of UK/EU students. We seek outstanding, motivated, and creative students who will be expected to submit their dissertations within 4 years.
The Department is broad-based, including Social Anthropology, Material/Visual/Digital Culture, Medical Anthropology and Biological Anthropology. In the 2019 QS World University Rankings the department was ranked in the world's top five anthropology departments. The department has a dynamic research and learning environment, and is a research-led department offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Anthropology at UCL has a thriving research culture, bringing together academic staff, a lively and cosmopolitan body of postgraduate research students, and a growing number of postdoctoral researchers associated with a number of research projects run by members of the department.
Applicants should have:
- Demonstrably strong background in anthropology (preferably top UG and Master's degrees)
- Research experience

Your portfolio should include:
- Writing sample from Master's or Undergraduate Dissertation (or similar)
- CV
- Research proposal, including provisional title, aims, background, methodology and how the proposal fits with the strengths of UCL's anthropology department
- Personal statement: please include details of why you meet the criteria, how your qualifications and experience have prepared you to do a PhD and the reasons for your interest in this scholarship.
- Names of two academic references
- Names of prospective supervisors who will have been contacted in advance
- Official final academic transcripts (in English) for all completed undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. Transcripts should show modules completed, grades obtained and your overall degree classification (if relevant).
