The second event organised by Anthropology Society this term - Wednesday 21st November 4-6pm - Anthropology Common Room
with Martin Holbraad & Volker Sommer
At the forefront of their respective fields, Martin Holbraad and Volker Sommer have each been pushing anthropology out of its humanist comfort zone. Martin proposes that we let things 'speak' for themselves, that is, beyond the ventriloquism that consists in recasting human properties across the human/non‐human divide. As for Volker, he has challenged his students and readers for decades with the claim that the cherished qualitative differentiation of humans from great apes simply does not hold to scientific evidence.
Can their agendas converge? Is there a common ground to be found from which anthropology as a whole can move beyond humanism? Find out on Wednesday 21st...
