Biography:

I’m a historian of medieval religious institutions. My PhD explored how territorial behaviours influenced institutional developments, and vice versa, looking specifically at the case of Poland in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. I am currently developing a project on the ‘long arm of papal authority’ – thinking about how popes managed to govern the vastness that was Latin Christendom, all the while remaining in Rome or Avignon. Issues of geographic and spatial imagination, and how they influence ideology and policies, are key here. I provide research support to the UCL Anthropocene project, helping to curate a useful bibliography.
