The museum is where the people are

Principal theme: Accessible and publicly-engaged

UCL Culture believes in sparking connections between people and ideas.

On 30 October 2015, as part of our engagement strategy for UCL East, we invited residents and school pupils from the surrounding areas to take part in our event ‘The museum is where the people are’.

UCL Museums and Collections and Salmagundi Films, who are part of the Stratford Rising arts consortium, held digital workshops for participants to explore what a museum collection means, how they saw themselves as being a collection in their own right and which objects they cherished or had collected over time.

Participants explored these themes through photography and stop-frame animation using iPads to create a final short animated film, Priceless.

The film was premiered at ‘The museum is where the people are’ event in the Timber Lodge cafe in Stratford. More than 170 people attended and we made many new contacts.
