It's All Academic Festival Launched

On Saturday 10 June, UCL will be opening its doors for the first ever It’s All Academic Festival. The Festival will celebrate all that is great at UCL, with the campus bursting at the seams with free indoor and outdoor events run by staff and students.

The event is open to everyone, and we look forward to welcoming alumni, students, staff, and members of the local community to campus for the day. There will be activities suitable for all ages and interests including talks, behind the scenes tours, and a host of interactive exhibits from across UCL.

At the heart of the day is the flagship event, Back the Future, introduced by UCL’s President and Provost Professor Michael Arthur, and hosted by TV presenter and UCL PhD student Dr Chris van Tulleken. The fun, fast moving event will feature TED-style talks from leading academics to explore how exciting research happening at UCL now will have an impact on how we live in the future. A broad range of topics from life and evolution to society and communication will be covered, before the conversation is opened for discussion with the floor.

Among the guest speakers taking part are Nobel prize winner Professor John O’Keefe, Professor Hugh Montgomery, Director of the UCL Institute for Human Health and Performance, and Dr Zoe Laughlin, Co-Founder and Director of UCL’s Institute of Making and a member of BBC 2’s The Big Life Fix team.

Other highlights of the day include showcases from Global Challenges and Mechanical Engineering, a live performance from Impropera, and a special session from A Pint of Science's Creative Reactions team. All events are free, with online booking required for sessions with a limited capacity.
