Our charter marks and awards

UCL has been awarded a number of charter marks, in recognition of our achievements in HR and in equality, diversity and inclusion.

Athena SWAN 

In 2015 UCL received a Silver Athena SWAN award from the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), in recognition of the university’s commitment to tackling gender inequality in higher education. Several departments have also received Gold Athena SWAN awards.

HR Excellence in Research 

UCL gained the European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award in 2013. The award recognises the systems and practices we have in place to support researchers' career and professional development in line with the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

Race Equality Charter Bronze Award 

UCL was one of the first universities in the UK to be formally awarded for its efforts to understand, and take steps to address, racialised inequalities in the academy. The university was only one of eight institutions to receive a Bronze award for a pioneering, national pilot of the Race Equality Charter for higher education in 2015.

Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2018

UCL is a member of Stonewall’s UK Diversity Champions programme and has been in the Workplace Equality Index (WEI) top 100 of gay-friendly employers three times, including this year.
