Report from UCL EGA Institute for Women's Health 12th Annual Conference

The 12th EGA Institute for Women's Health Annual Conference took place on Friday 7th July 2017 at UCL. This year we tried a new format starting with junior staff presentations which saw them presenting high quality research projects including 2 by medical school students, Sugee Jeevagan and Pollyanna Cohen. The prize for the oral presentation went to
- Rosalind Pratt for Best Overall with her presentation "Investigating placental efficiency: Novel analysis of the Fetoplacental Vascular Tree"
- Terence Leung for second place with his presentation "Quantifying the yellow tints in the conjunctiva in jaundiced neonates with digital imaging"
- Anasztazia Gubijev for third place with her presentation "Design and development of the Contraception Choices internet intervention"
Following this exciting session, the Institute was honoured to introduced the first two Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Lectures, the first one given by Professor Ashley Moffett (Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge on "The role of the maternal immune system in regulation of the human birthweight" and the second by Professor Alison Fiander (University of Cardiff and Clinical Lead, RCOG Leading Safe Choices) on "Global gynaecology: Holding up half the sky". Both lectures were highly inspiring, brilliantly delivered and contributed to the success of the day.
Posters in smaller numbers than previous years remained of high quality and stimulated interesting discussions over the lunch break. The poster prizes went to
- Dilisha Patel (Reproductive Health) for Best Overall
- Katie Hann (Women's Cancer) for Highest Scoring - Jr Dr/Midwife/ Nurse/Researcher
- Tobi Odeyemi (Neonatology) for Highest Scoring - Medical Student
- Anna Maria Ranzoni (Maternal & Fetal Medicine) for Highest Scoring - MD/PhD Student
The final session of the day entitled "High profile research from the IfWH" was equally highly inspiring with incredible achievements by all team including more than 100 publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals, numerous multimedia hits and research prizes and awards. The Athena SWAN Gold Award being certainly one of the highlight achievement of the past academic year.
Overall the day was a testimony of the Institute's high achievements in research, teaching and equal opportunity standards.
