Assessment of cerebral perfusion and mitochondrial oxygen metabolism using optical techniques in newborn brain injury.
Project description
- Using advanced optical techniques combining the measurement of cerebral perfusion and metabolic state, this project assesses the changes both prior to and following newborn brain injury in a range of different patient cohorts. Brain injury related to preterm birth, perinatal asphyxia, neonatal stroke and seizures will be assessed at the cotside in various observational studies with the aim to identify important optical biomarkers of injury that will predict neurological outcome and support clinical management.
