Education
A report published in 2019 by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and National Union of Students (NUS) found that 80% of students believed sustainable development should be actively incorporated by UK universities.
Through teaching and extra curricula activities, we will inspire our students to become the sustainability leaders of tomorrow.
At UCL every student will have the opportunity to study and be involved in sustainability by 2024. Read on to find out how we will achieve this, and how you can embed sustainability into the curriculum or make it a part of your studies.

Katie Briggs - Conservation MSc
I am a MSc Conservation graduate, and currently doing an internship in the UCL Sustainability Team. I’m hoping to pursue a career in the sustainability/ environmental sector maybe with a focus on the marine environment as I did Marine Biology as my undergrad.

Paul Ilzins - Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment MSc
“When learning about the immense sustainability challenges in the classroom, you can sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed. Delivering a solar panel project for UCL with fellow students and friends reminded me that you can make a difference in so many ways!”

Olive Burchill - Part-time Master of Laws
"Between 19 to 29 October 2020, UCL hosted a two-week virtual conference exploring the role of universities in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I was part of the team working on the student showcase platform, which ran alongside the event series. The platform was a fantastic opportunity to showcase projects or work that UCL students have undertaken that relate to the SDGs."

Hamnah Shakeel, Geography BA
"As a predominantly Human Geographer, I’ve been fascinated by the role humans have had on how the world has changed; especially in causing the climate crisis. This is why I’d like to pursue a career related to sustainability and tackling the causes of this climate emergency."
