In March 2021 the WRC provided a two and half day training course to CUAMM – Doctors with Africa titled Warnings for Hazards and Risk Reduction Programme. With 12 delegates, the course was run jointly with expertise from Richard Gordon, Director of the Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre . In the course we provided the below content and a simulation based around managing hazards in South Sudan enabling the ability to integrate research and practice to find solutions that will work to enhance warnings:

  • Introduction to Early Warning Governance looking at International Agendas,
  • Introduction to National Disaster Management - Systems, Structures and Governance
  • Introduction to International Humanitarian Operations -  Systems, Structures and Governance.
  • Building National and Local Early Warning Networks - how to engage?
  • Creating Effective Warning and Alert systems -  Integration from the First to the Last Mile
  • Operating in Africa: Ethics and conflicting strategies and communications
  • Designing & Evaluating Effective Warning Systems - Learning from Past Events and the role of Communication
  • Transition Strategies, Monitoring and Evaluation

We received positive feedback from all that attended to the training course and continue to work with Doctors with Africa CUAMM to support their extraordinary work.
