Captioned-video competition happening! We are holding a new information session on
Wednesday, February 12th, from 3 to 5pm in the Gavin de Beer Lecture Theatre
(Anatomy building) .

To refresh your minds, the aim will be to produce a 1’ to 1’30” captioned video (basically one
that contains subtitles on top of the visual output, so that it can be watched without the
sound) about a current research project taking place at UCL. There is no restriction in terms
of areas of research covered in the video. The competition is open both to all-levels STS
students and any UCL students who have ever an STS module (so feel free to share the
info!). You can choose to register either individually or in a group of up to 3 persons.
Absolutely no prerequisite or past experience in filmmaking required.
New registration deadline: February 14th, 2020, 5pm .

The competition is organized by the Lunar Society, but will also be supported by the journal
Nature: they will organize a master class on February 26th, be part of the jury, and all of the
prizes contain at least a one-year subscription to the magazine. Speaking of, the winning
entry will also receive a £500 voucher with Wex towards buying a film kit, the runner-up(s)
will get a £250 voucher with Wex towards buying photo or video material, and the third prize
will be just the Nature subscription. Additionally, Nature will potentially publish the winning
videos on their social media platforms.

The video will have to be submitted on April 27th, and the jury will be composed of BBC,
Nature Magazine and UCL staff. The results will be announced on May 11th.

We will elaborate on the rules, master class, prizes in more detail and answer all questions
during the info session, at the end of which you will also be able to register. Hope to see you
all there!
