Dr Tom Bartlett’s work published in Nature Communications

Dr Tom Bartlett's work analysing epigenomic data, in collaboration with Professor Martin Widschwendter's team at UCL EGA Institute for Women's Health (IfWH), has just been published in Nature Communications. In this work, Tom carried out statistical analyses to identify epigenomic reprogramming which takes place near to the ovaries of women with mutations to the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes (who are known to be at high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers) before any cancerous changes could be seen. Experimental colleagues then identified a particular enzyme that seems to trigger this reprogramming. The identification of this molecular pathway opens up possibilities for intervention before a woman develops ovarian cancer.
