Director's Message on the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh

4 October 2023

A message to UCL students from Prof Richard Mole, Director of SSEES.

SSEES Front Grill

It is with great sorrow that I have been following the events unfolding in Nagorno-Karabakh. It has been particularly distressing to witness families from the region, often with young children, being forced to flee their homes for the neighbouring Republic of Armenia, where they face acute humanitarian challenges.

I wish to convey my deepest concern for any of our students affected by the conflict. We are here to support you at this time of fear and uncertainty. For any student feeling distressed or affected by the conflict, please do reach out to your personal tutor. They are here to support you. UCL’s Student Support and Wellbeing team provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which you can discuss any issues that may be affecting your ability to study. The support services are free of charge and open to all UCL students: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/students/student-support-and-wellbeing.
