Call for applications: British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships

The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme is now open for applications. UCL SSEES is inviting expressions of interest from researchers who both satisfy the scheme criteria and have identified a mentor within SSEES who has agreed to support their application.   

Applicants must:
•    be supported by the host UK university or research institution in which they wish to hold the Fellowship;
•    be within three years of the award of a doctorate, i.e. are expected to have completed their viva voce between 1 April 2021 and 1 April 2024. Applicants who expect to have had their viva by 1 April 2024, are eligible for consideration, but will have to withdraw their application if the examination is pushed back beyond that date; 
•    be a UK or EEA national or have completed a doctorate at a UK university, or be able to demonstrate in some other way that they have a strong association of some kind with the UK academic community;
•    not hold a permanent academic post at a higher education institution;
•    be aware that they may only apply once in the three years they are eligible.

Duration and Value

The Fellowship is tenable for three years, starting Autumn 2024 in a UK-based university or higher education institution.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online using the British Academy's Grants portal Flexi-Grant. The deadline for submissions and UK host organisation approval is Wednesday 4 October 2023 (17:00 BST).

Internal Process and Deadlines

Identify a mentor in SSEES, contact them and see if they are willing to support your application. Once you have secured ‘in principle’ approval from a mentor in SSEES, please email amy.e.white@ucl.ac.uk to register your interest, copying in the Head of Research, r.butterwick@ucl.ac.uk.
