Implant Dentistry: Fundamental Implant Prosthodontics

This two-day course is for clinicians who want to manage the restoration of dental implants in straightforward cases.

The course will cover:

  • patient assessment
  • treatment planning
  • restorative procedures
  • maintenance
  • management of complications

It's delivered through lectures, group exercises and hands-on workshops.

All tutors are registered specialists in prosthodontics with substantial experience in implant training and education.

The course is run by the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London which has a broad range of continuing professional development (CPD) short courses. These provide hands-on training from experienced staff in dedicated facilities.

Aims of the course

The course aims to provide you with the knowledge to restore and maintain straightforward implant cases.

Content and structure

The course is structured as follows.

Day one

Morning lectures will cover patient selection, and implant treatment planning concepts and impressions.

This is followed by a practical impressions workshop.

The afternoon will involve lectures on abutment selection and restoration design.

Day two

Morning lectures will cover implant occlusion, fit procedures, maintenance and management of common complications.

The afternoon hands-on workshop will involve fabrication and fitting of a provisional implant restoration for ideal soft tissue contour, aesthetics and function using implant abutments.

The day will end with a Q&A session and post-course review.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • identify and plan implant treatment in a single tooth case
  • restore single tooth implants
  • maintain implants in straightforward cases
  • manage common complications

    Who this course is for

    The course is aimed at those who are new to implant dentistry and would like to develop the skills to be able to restore implants in straightforward cases. 

    This serves as an excellent introduction to further training in implant dentistry.

    You'll need to hold an approved dental qualification.

    Teaching methods and dates

    You'll have a mixture of lectures, seminars and hands-on workshops.

    Each day will run from approximately 9:30am to 5pm.

    CPD points and certificate

    You'll gain 13 hours of verifiable CPD and a certificate of attendance on completing the course.

    There's no formal assessment.

    Quality controls

    All Eastman teachers are experienced professionals. You'll be asked to submit written feedback via a questionnaire at the end of the course, which is used to monitor the course's quality of teaching and value for money.

    Course team

    Pareet Shah

    Pareet Shah

    Pareet (BDS [Hons], MFDS RCSEd, MClinDent, MRD RCSEd) is a specialist in prosthodontics. He graduated with distinction from King’s Dental Institute in 1999.

    Since then he's worked in a variety of dental practice, hospital and university positions, gaining postgraduate qualifications. Pareet then undertook specialist training in prosthodontics at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute (EDI) and was awarded a distinction in his Master’s degree, as well as the UCL Dental School Prize in Prosthodontics. He's also carried out research and published articles in the British Dental Journal.

    Currently, he divides his time between teaching implant courses at the EDI and private specialist practice in Tring, Hertfordshire and Harrow, London. He has advanced expertise in all forms of tooth restoration and replacement including implants, crowns and bridges. This includes over 10 years of implant experience with a 99% success rate of treatment.

    Safa Somi

    Safa Somi

    Safa Somi completed her Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from Cardiff University with distinction in 2014 and gained Membership in Prosthodontics Diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh afterward. She has been recognised by General Dental Council as a Specialist in Prosthodontics following her extensive speciality training and experience in managing complex restorative cases.

    Safa was appointed as a part-time Clinical Lecturer at Cardiff Dental School from 2014 till 2018 where she was teaching postgraduate dentists at Master of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) and MSc (Implantology). She was responsible for didactic and clinical teaching in advanced restorative and implant dentistry to dentists undergoing specialist training for the Membership in Restorative Dentistry Diploma. At Cardiff University, Safa was also involved in a few research projects, her research interest was in the field of tissue regeneration.

    Safa is now a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow on the Implant Dentistry PG Diploma at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute.
