Implant Dentistry Diploma: Study Club

  • 26 hours
  • 4 days

Overview

This four-day study club is for graduates of the Implant Dentistry PG Diploma.

You'll read scientific literature, participate in discussions and present cases from your own practice to the group.

In addition, you'll be entitled to free attendance at the alumni study day, where Dr Oscar González-Martín will deliver a day's lecture on contemporary implant dentistry in the aesthetic zone.

You'll also be offered optional mentoring at the Eastman, subject to cost and availability.

The course is run by the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London.

Course aims

This study club aims to:

  • provide you with a forum to appraise and discuss current issues in the scientific literature related to implant dentistry
  • discuss the management of clinical cases and practical issues from your own clinical practice

Structure and assessment

Each day will run from approximately 9:30am to 5pm.

The days will involve seminar-based teaching and learning with the support of a tutor from the Implant team.

You'll be expected to read and appraise selected papers from the scientific literature related to implant dentistry. There will be a tutor-led group discussion regarding the merits of each paper and the relative implications for evidence-based practice.

Following this, you'll be expected to bring cases from your own practice for group discussion. The cases will need to be presented with sufficient information to merit full evaluation and should be presented with a similar format to examination cases.

There will then be discussion of practical issues and any other implant-related topics.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the study club, you'll:

  • understand the appraisal of classic and contemporary implant literature and its application in evidence-based practice
  • understand the steps in treatment planning, clinical execution of implant-based treatment and the management of complications that arise within clinical practice

Cost

The cost for the four-day study club is £1,095. This includes

  • four days' small-group teaching at the Eastman
  • free attendance at alumni study day
  • access to optional mentoring, for an additional fee and subject to availability
