UCL Arts & Humanities Dean’s Scholarship Guidance

Guidance Notes for applications to UCL Arts & Humanities Dean’s Scholarship. Please use these notes to help you complete the online application form.

Before You Begin

  • You must hold an offer of admission at UCL in order to be able to apply for the UCL Arts & Humanities Dean’s Scholarship.
  • If you have been offered two programmes at UCL, you will need to complete two applications.
  • Additional information including personal details and references from your UCAS application are available to us and therefore not requested on this form.

Navigating the Form

  • In order to move through the form, please click on the ‘Next’ button at the bottom of each page.
  • You will need to answer all mandatory questions to move forward with the application. If you have missed any mandatory questions, an error message will appear informing you of this.
  • We have highlighted the mandatory questions in the question guidance below.
  • You will need to upload an academic essay in order to complete the application, please click the ‘Next’ button on the final page (after the two declarations).
  • At this point, you will no longer be able to make any changes to your application, so please check the information before you submit.
  • Once you have submitted your online application, you should receive an automated email confirming receipt of your completed application.

Answering the Questions

Q1. PERSONAL DETAILS SECTION (Q2-5)

Q2. [Mandatory] Is UCL listed as your firm choice with UCAS?

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you need to choose UCL as your firm choice with UCAS for the 2021/22 academic year.

Q3. [Mandatory] Have you already obtained an Undergraduate degree?

For the scholarship scheme bases on financial need, students who have not yet had the opportunity to study for an undergraduate degree will be given preference to those who already have an undergraduate degree.

Q4. [Mandatory] Please give us details of your highest qualification, including: name of institution, country, and completion year (e.g. UCL, UK, 2020)

For the scholarship scheme bases on financial need, students who have not yet had the opportunity to study in UK will be given preference to those who already have qualifications in UK.

Q5. [Optional] If you have any further information you would like to provide on your education to date, please do so here (500 characters max.)

This question is not mandatory and is an opportunity to give any further information about your education, should you feel that the above information does not fully explain your situation. If you have no information to enter here, it can be left blank.

Q6. PERSONAL FINANCIAL DETAILS SECTION (Q7-12)

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) require that international students are able to pay for the first year tuition fees and provide £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) towards living expenses. In this section of the application, we are looking for an honest appraisal of your financial situation beyond what you may receive through this scholarship application. As this is a partial scholarship, it is important that accurate information is provided as to how you will be intending to cover the remainder of costs.

All values you provide in Q7-12 should be the overall total for the first academic year and will be considered to be in £ Sterling. Please use numerical values only (e.g. 1500, no commas or symbols) - if a particular funding option is not applicable or available to you, please simply enter 0. You can find a useful currency converter at xe.com.

Q7. [Mandatory] Please enter the value of government loans relating to intended programme at UCL.

Any loans you intend to apply or have secured from a government loan scheme.

Q8. [Mandatory] Please enter the value of funding relating to intended programme at UCL.

Any scholarships, awards, bursaries, or similar that you intend to apply for, have applied for, or have secured for your studies. If you include a number other than 0 in this field, please provide details in Q12 including the provider of the funding, funding based on academic merit or financial need and whether or not it is secured.

Q13. HOUSEHOLD FINANCIAL DETAILS SECTION (Q14-23)

Q14. [Mandatory] Please provide a figure for your household's gross annual income. Please use numerical values.

Please indicate the gross annual income of your household for the year prior to the beginning of your course at UCL. This should include all pre-tax earning from members of the household whose wages go towards the general maintenance of the household, such as rent and bills. Part-time work for spending money that is not contributed to general household support should not be included. We will require evidence of this amount e.g. bank statements, tax returns etc. if you are shortlisted for this scholarship.

Q15. [Mandatory] Please specify the number of people in the household who live on the gross annual income stated in Q14. Please use numerical values.

These dependants need to be financially dependent on the overall household income. Please include earners and yourself.

If you do not feel that simply noting the number of dependants in the household fairly reflects your situation, please outline additional information here e.g. dependent needs long-term care or if you are a parent or single parent with children.

Include here any additional details about your household income that you would like to make us aware of when assessing your financial situation, that are not immediately obvious from the numerical value above e.g. business bankruptcy, parents' recent divorce.

Include here any significant and exceptional costs that impact on your household situation e.g. large medical bills, repayments on sizeable debts etc.
