I stayed at UCL to do my Masters and I knew we were running a bursary scheme for students from lower income backgrounds. The Postgraduate Loan would not cover all of the tuition fee costs, let alone the maintenance costs. Receiving the bursary meant I could afford to do a Masters. Thanks to my Masters, and by extension the bursary, I was able to secure a fully funded PhD position at De Montfort University.

I was very grateful for the UCL masters scholarship. It completely transformed my year and allowed me to enjoy my university life and education. By receiving the scholarship, I didn’t have to struggle with balancing my timings between a full time job and university. I was able to work on my masters, spend time with friends and family and have the ability to complete extra excursions within London. I was really stressed prior to going to uni about how I would manage my finances but the scholarship really was my saving grace.

I have been at UCL since 2019, initially an undergraduate and later as a postgraduate. I heard about the scholarship after searching on the UCL website. Without its support, I would not have been able to pursue a Masters. The offer of a potential scholarship played a significant role in my decision to continue onto postgraduate studies. The scholarship therefore allowed me to continue my education.

Without this scholarship I would not have been able to attend UCL. Both professionally and financially a Masters is a serious endeavour, and had I not been able to find sufficient funding between part-time work, an additional student loan, and funding from UCL, I would likely have had to change paths career-wise. I knew that I wanted to study in or around London, especially given how integral London is to the U.K.’s tech industry.

I chose UCL as I studied here for undergrad and was more confident in receiving funding than from my other offered universities. I found out about the scholarship myself through UCL's websites. I could not have afforded the degree without a bursary.

I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship I received. As a student from a working class background and without any financial support, I could never have achieved my dream of studying at UCL without this financial support. This means I have been able to pursue a world class course and believe in a future for someone like me in academia. My advice to anyone considering applying would be to go for it, you have no idea how impactful it could be to your life.

The interdisciplinary nature of the forensics course was perfect for me and I really wanted to study at UCL, but I would not have been able to afford to do so without the help of the scholarship! It has enabled me to study and cut down significantly on part-time hours, so I can have a more relaxed year and focus on my studies and achieve the best I can. Once my studies are complete, I am hoping to enter full-time employment in the cyber security industry.

I applied for funding from SFE to cover the remainder of my tuition fee and worked part-time for maintenance. I am also looking to apply for the hardship bursary. My experience at UCL has been great. I have found that my bursary being paid directly to the university saved a lot of stress of having to find money to cover my tuition fees. My advice for others applying would be to just do it! It could definitely help you out if you are somebody who needs some financial assistance so that some stress is taken off of your back throughout your studies.

I was interested in UCL as I wanted to live in London, particularly for employment prospects. However, the cost of the masters course and simply living in the capital meant that I had to look very carefully at funding options. Therefore, I found the MSc bursary. The bursary honestly made the difference between me being able to come and complete my masters this year and me having to take a year out to work. Without it I simply would not have been able to afford the tuition, so it made a huge difference.

UCL is the best university to study my specific course. I saw the scholarship online. I would not have studied this course if I had not received the bursary, so it was very helpful. I will be enrolling on a SQE course (funded). The scholarship is very useful for those who are on the fence about studying a course due to financial difficulties. The scholarship team is helpful and informative.
