Szymon Olejarnik
Cognitive Neuroscience MRes
UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences
I stayed at UCL to do my Masters and I knew we were running a bursary scheme for students from lower income backgrounds. The Postgraduate Loan would not cover all of the tuition fee costs, let alone the maintenance costs. Receiving the bursary meant I could afford to do a Masters. Thanks to my Masters, and by extension the bursary, I was able to secure a fully funded PhD position at De Montfort University.

I was very grateful for the UCL masters scholarship. It completely transformed my year and allowed me to enjoy my university life and education. By receiving the scholarship, I didn’t have to struggle with balancing my timings between a full time job and university. I was able to work on my masters, spend time with friends and family and have the ability to complete extra excursions within London. I was really stressed prior to going to uni about how I would manage my finances but the scholarship really was my saving grace.

Environment, Politics and Society MSc
UCL Department of Geography
I have been at UCL since 2019, initially an undergraduate and later as a postgraduate. I heard about the scholarship after searching on the UCL website. Without its support, I would not have been able to pursue a Masters. The offer of a potential scholarship played a significant role in my decision to continue onto postgraduate studies. The scholarship therefore allowed me to continue my education.

Computer Science MSc

Without this scholarship I would not have been able to attend UCL. Both professionally and financially a Masters is a serious endeavour, and had I not been able to find sufficient funding between part-time work, an additional student loan, and funding from UCL, I would likely have had to change paths career-wise. I knew that I wanted to study in or around London, especially given how integral London is to the U.K.’s tech industry.
Molly Ives
Crime and Forensic Science MSc
UCL Department of Security and Crime Science
The interdisciplinary nature of the forensics course was perfect for me and I really wanted to study at UCL, but I would not have been able to afford to do so without the help of the scholarship! It has enabled me to study and cut down significantly on part-time hours, so I can have a more relaxed year and focus on my studies and achieve the best I can. Once my studies are complete, I am hoping to enter full-time employment in the cyber security industry.
Ellie Maycock
Brain and Mind Sciences MSc
UCL Faculty of Brain Sciences
I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship I received. As a student from a working class background and without any financial support, I could never have achieved my dream of studying at UCL without this financial support. This means I have been able to pursue a world class course and believe in a future for someone like me in academia. My advice to anyone considering applying would be to go for it, you have no idea how impactful it could be to your life.
