10 December 2020

Professor David Alexander, Professor Ilan Kelman and Dr Bayes Ahmed have been listed as the world’s top 2% of scientists in their respective fields.

The ranking was based on a recently published article (Ioannidis et al., 2020) that used citations from Scopus and assessed scientists for their total number of papers (1960–2019) and career-long citation (1996–2019) impact within their disciplines. The authors created a publicly available database of the top 2% of scientists of their main subfield discipline that provides standardised information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator.

Career-long impact

Professor David Alexander, with 107 Scopus-indexed publications, has been ranked 31st out of 17,157 scientists in the field of Strategic, Defence and Security Studies. It has placed him within the top 0.18% of scientists in his main subfield discipline.

Professor Ilan Kelman, with 184 Scopus-indexed publications, has been ranked 78th out of 17,157 scientists in the field of Strategic, Defence and Security Studies. It has placed him within the top 0.45% of scientists in his main subfield discipline.

Year 2019 citation impact

Professor Ilan Kelman, with 184 Scopus-indexed publications, has been ranked 22nd out of 17,157 scientists in the field of Strategic, Defence and Security Studies. It has placed him within the top 0.13% of scientists in his main subfield discipline in 2019.

Dr Bayes Ahmed, with 25 Scopus-indexed publications, has been ranked 526th out of 44,176 scientists in the field of Geological and Geomatics Engineering. It has placed him within the top 1.19% of scientists in his main subfield discipline in 2019.

This is an indication that Dr Bayes Ahmed is an emerging top scientist in the field of Geological and Geomatics Engineering.
